I say, go with what rocks your socks more. that's some good stuff for electronic music. However, Reason's Maelstrom and Subtractor.
there's some decent stuff in NN-XT, organic sounds I mean, but I think Sampletank is the winner in the realistic sounds dept. Regarding Reason, I have version 3.0, and I love its electronic music production value, but I think a lot of the sounds are lacking. Out of 1500 sounds, I'd say at least 1000 are useful and damn good-sounding. Some highlights: the 1920's Upright Piano (I use this ALL the time), the JBassFingered. I think it's more than worth its weight in gold, for the tweakability and the sound quality. I haven't heard better strings, and I've looked a lot over the years. piano, bass guitars, electric pianos, and the orchestral stuff. I have version 2XL and constantly, CONSTANTLY go back to it for the "essentials". Well i did say it would be a little list. Garritan Personal Orchestra(Kontakt 2), Battery 2,įave Sequencer would be.
SAMPLETANK 3.0 PATCH
Some of the multisample patches like the 'String Quartet' patch use all 8 voice channels layering up the various parts, they are also only mapped to real life ranges, so you cant get the cellos like way out of octave and stuff,įor my drums and stuff i just use samples from vinyl/sample packs, flung into Battery v2 and played via my MPC, i guess its all about your preference and style of music, and the fact that i used reason for so long (like 3 years) just made me start to hate it, that horrible sequencer O_o forget updating the instruments in that program, they should work on the damn sequencer window, lol, oh well, rant over.īest VST's would be. Love it ^_^Įven still, for nice sounding strings and the like i would highly reccomend Garritans Personal Orchestra VST, the sounds in that thing are awesome, especially the strings, horns and pianos.
SAMPLETANK 3.0 PRO
Personally Live is my sequencer of choice, but you really need either a good amount of outboard gear, or some mighty nice VST's if you arent going to work with just samples and grooves.(Sadly the college uses Live 5 LE which only allows 4 audio tracks,4 Clips per track, and onlt 2.yes 2 effects in the entire session) Basically they want us to use pro tools pro tools pro tools all the way, not a bad thing i guess, but really, i dont think it is the best program for creating music in, unless your recording bands (or your own band)įor me, Live was like so amazing when i got it, i honestly uninstalled reason like within a week of obtaining Live.
I used reason for toooo long, man i cant stand that program anymore, its got a clunky sequencer, obviously poor presets (not that presets in any program are very good anyway) and basically i feel it is just trying to be too much, i quite like the sounds off the combinator (we use this in college, but its Reason 3.5 LE,)
